Background
Mr Chung graduated from Monash University and worked as a fully qualified pharmacist before embarking on medicine. As a pharmacist before becoming a doctor, Mr Chung has had many years of delivering patient care and it has always been his goal to provide care that is balanced and patient-focused. Mr Chung undertook to study medicine to enhance and complement his pharmaceutical knowledge, and completed his medical degree with honours from the University of Sydney. During medical school, he was particularly fascinated by the intricacies of the brain and the advances that surgery was making in the lives of those afflicted with neurological diseases. Upon graduating in medicine, he completed residency and advanced neurosurgical training in Sydney and Melbourne, and was admitted into the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons as a specialist neurosurgeon. He has also completed extensive fellowship training from The Royal Edinburgh College of Surgeons and Salford Royal Foundation Trust in the UK, where he was the lead clinician in one of the busiest UK neurovascular quaternary referral centres. |
Expertise
Mr Chung is able to provide safe and considered care in all aspects of general neurosurgery and in particular he has a special interest in neurovascular diseases (aneurysms, AVMs, fistulae, cavernoma, mechanical thrombectomy, trigeminal neuralgia). Mr Chung has acquired significant expertise in the field of neurovascular disease with dual-training in conventional micro-neurosurgery (clipping of aneurysms) and minimally-invasive percutaneous endovascular techniques (coiling of aneurysms). This comprehensive approach is unique in Victoria and patients benefit from an unbiased contemporary approach to the treatment for brain aneurysms, AVMs and fistulae. Mr Chung’s expertise was recognised with an invitation to moderate cerebral aneurysms research presentations in the World Neurosurgery Congress, and with national and international peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals. |
